The Idaho Public Utilities Commission recently approved an agreement between SUEZ Water and its customers to raise rates by 8.75 percent over a two-year period.

The rise will increase the company's revenue by $3.99 million. The company initially proposed a rise by 22.3 percent, but agreed to the 8.75 percent after settlement negotiations.

SUEZ customers will see a 3.55 percent increase on May 1, then rates will increase by 5.2 percent a year later.

The water company says the average residential customer's monthly bill will go up a little more than $1 in the first and second year. The average commercial customer's monthly bill will go up almost $4 in the first year and almost $6 in the second year.

In its order issued Friday, the commission acknowledged concerns of discolored water on the Boise Bench. It encouraged SUEZ to address the issue, and SUEZ agreed to keep commission staff informed of the efforts.
