According to a new court filing, Sophie Turner is taking legal action against her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Joe Jonas, claiming that the couple's shared children are being "wrongfully retained." The documents also state that the duo had discussed permanently relocating them to England as they organized their divorce. People reports that the lawsuit was in a Manhattan court on Thursday and that Turner wants Willa and the couple's second daughter, who was only identified as D, to live in England.
The suit requests "the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained." Turner's legal team asserts that the "wrongful retention" began on Sept. 20. The filing also explains that the couple agreed to declare England their kids' "forever home" in conversations dating back to Christmas 2022.
"The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother," the court documents read.
Custody of their two daughters started to get complicated when Turner began filming her miniseries, Joan, around the same time that Jonas set out on a tour with The Jonas Brothers. The court documents say that the two agreed to let their daughters remain with Joe because "he had more daytime hours to be available to them". However, Turner's legal team adds that she had "hesitation" about the "temporary arrangement."
Turner's filing adds that the dissolution of their marriage occurred "very suddenly" in the wake of an argument on Aug. 15. Jonas filed for divorce on Sept. 1, and Turner claims that she learned about their split "from the media" days later. Turner adds that when she "reiterated" the plan to move to England, Jonas had changed his mind.
People adds that Jonas's attorney had confirmed that he would not be returning the passports on Sept. 19 and "would not provide consent for his daughters to move."
