Now that Indiana Jones 5 is happening after a delay of over a decade, the excitement of the franchise’s fans has been running high, especially when it comes to the lead character of Indy, which will once again be reprised by Harrison Ford. While the creators of the film have not been very forthcoming about sharing any details about its story, eagle-eyed fans have captured sneak peeks of its shooting currently underway in England and the latest leak serves as further proof to confirm that yes, we will be getting a digitally de-aged Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5.

A few days ago, Twitter user Mark Murphy shared a new image from the sets of Indiana Jones 5 where Harrison Ford can be seen alongside co-star Toby Jones. Apart from a haggard and worried expression, Ford is also wearing many motion capture dots- used in the digital de-aging process- on his face as well as around the shoulders and neck. And this is not the first leak that establishes the possibility of an appearance of the Indy from the 30s.

Recently, another Twitter user shared a video from the sets of Indiana Jones 5. While it didn’t feature Harrison Ford, it showed us a British Railways’ standard class 9F that has been transformed into a Nazi locomotive with an unmistakable swastika symbol on the steam engine. The timeline of the Indiana Jones franchise is well past the possibility of featuring Nazis and also, Indiana Jones 5 is probably set in the 60s. Thus, the most plausible scenario for the appearance of the Nazis can be flashbacks of Indy’s past encounters with them in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which again means a de-aged Harrison Ford.

Daily Mail had also shared some behind-the-scenes pictures from the filming of Indiana Jones 5. In the photos, the above-mentioned Nazi train was seen on the North Yorkshire Moors along with a stuntman riding a motorcycle and wearing a face mask of a younger Harrison Ford. This could mean that we will be getting flashbacks of scenes where a young Indy used to chase the Nazis for the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail. This would also establish that the story of the fifth film in the franchise is somehow connected to these artifacts and will lead the older Indy to embark on yet another quest.

Apart from Harrison Ford and Toby, Indiana Jones 5 will also see Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thomas Kretschmann, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson. We are yet to get a look at these actors in their respective characters or what roles they are playing in the first place. Similarly, the film remains untitled as well and is continuing its filming under the temporary title of Indiana Jones 5.

Unlike Harrison Ford, who is reprising the titular character of Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones in the film for the fifth time at the age of 78, Steven Spielberg has vacated the director’s chair and handed it over to Logan director, James Mangold. Franchise creator George Lucas is on board as executive producer while Spielberg is present as a “hands-on” producer, along with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel. Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled to release on July 29. 2022.
